Two EDC Systems apprentices learning practical electrical skills

Every year, we look at how we can continue to develop the EDC Systems team, from WHS and supplier training through to online learning and specialist short courses.

In 2021, we introduced another approach - encouraging our more advanced third and fourth-year apprentices to help train and support our first-year apprentices.

While our experienced tradespeople and project managers provide guidance throughout an apprentice’s training, there can also be real value in learning from someone who was in the same position only a few years earlier.

A third or fourth-year apprentice can often remember the challenges of starting out and identify the practical knowledge they wish they had known earlier. This can help make the information being shared relevant and relatable to a new apprentice.

Importantly, this learning takes place under the guidance of our experienced project managers and tradespeople, with technical information and training supported by qualified team members.

We also recognise that the way people learn continues to change. Creating opportunities for apprentices to learn from each other complements formal training while helping more experienced apprentices develop their own communication, leadership and mentoring skills.

Like any good team, we believe there is real value in developing people from within and sharing knowledge across generations of the workforce.
